FEB. 14 - Deliver Valentines to Hickory House Residents

Tuesday, February 14, we will be taking the Valentine cards we made to the residents at Hickory House Nursing Home. We will be showing God's Love to these residents and hopefully bringing a smile to their faces and Joy to their hearts! There are approximately 105 residents and we have made enough cards for each one!!

Please meet at the church at 5:30 PM SHARP, so that we can leave no later than 5:45 PM to deliver the cards.

We will return to the church around 6:30 for dinner and a Valentine treat!

Please let Ms. Glady know by text or Email ... "YES" or "NO" whether you can participate.

Just a reminder... On Tuesday, Feb. 7th, there is no regular meeting, BUT... we will be making more Valentine cards to take to the residents of Hickory House on Feb. 17th. On Feb. 7th, we made about 35 cards for the residents, but there are 100 residents currently at Hickory House, so we need to make MORE!

If you can come to help make cards, please text or call Ms. Glady.

Meet at the church at the normal 5:30p.m. time, or whenever you can make it! There will not be dinner, but there will be snacks and drinks!! Hope to see you there!!

WE ARE ONLY A WEEK AWAY from FUN, FUN, FUN!!!

Everyone going to Pinebrook (and that is 24 of us!)...

Meet at the Church by 5:15 PM, Friday night, Feb. 3.
CLIFFORD (the big, red bus) WILL PULL OUT AT 5:30 SHARP!!

The trip will be 2&1/2 hours and we will stop at McDonald's for dinner on the way up, so bring money for dinner, or pack your dinner.

We will return on Sunday approximately at 3:30 PM.

WHERE YOU ARE STAYING & WHAT TO BRING:
You will be staying in assorted dormitories that house 3 to 8 people. You will need to bring your own bedding (sheets, pillow, blankets, etc.). It is strongly recommended to bring a sleeping bag since is does get very cold at Pinebrook. Along with your bedding your should bring:

· Towels and toiletries
· Flashlight
· Bible (very important)
· Warm coat, gloves, hat or earmuffs (it gets COLD)!
· Rain coat or poncho, umbrella (if rain forecasted)
· EXTRA SPENDING MONEY - There is a snack bar and gift shop on campus. The Administration Bldg also has games such as ping pong, pool, air hockey. These games require coins to operate them and a deposit fee will also be charged for the use of the equipment. The deposit fee will be returned when the equipment is returned in good condition ($10 for cue stick, $5 for a ping pong paddle, etc.).

PAINTBALL: $18 for 500 rounds and equipment - a camouflage suit is available for an additional $5.00

SWIMMING: Girls MUST wear a one-piece swim suit (or tankini).
NO two-piece suits.

NO CELL PHONES**, RADIOS, WALKMEN, I-PODS, OR OTHER ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT DEVICES ARE PERMITTED ON THE CAMP FACILITY. Items will be confiscated and returned at the end of the retreat.
**Your leaders will allow cell phone use during free time if not abused.

Swim Party for January 21 - POSTPONED

Sorry Everyone... They are calling for snow and/or icy mix on Saturday (probably will turn out to be nothing...) so our swim party is CANCELED for Jan. 21.

WE WILL reschedule it for Saturday, February 18th. That day we will be renting the pool, so that we have it all to ourselves! The time will be later, though.

We will meet at the church at 3:30pm and go to swim from 4:00-5:30, and then return to the church for pick up by 6:00pm. Maybe we can plan to have a light dinner together when we return to the church... Let's talk about it!

Flyers will be handed out closer to the date! Sorry for the disappointment!

Virginia Winter Retreat Was Awesome!

Eight Sr. High Youth (Dylan, Tommy, Tanner, Ryan, Jen, Lauren K., Ciara, and Michael) and 3 Adults (Ms. Glady, Mr. Shawn & Mr. Walt) left Friday, Jan. 6, at 5 PM to head to Middleburg, Virginia. A 3.5 hour ride ended at Camp Highroad, where we met up with Bryan & Kate Rigg, and youth from their church, Redeemer Pres., in Lynchberg. It was good to see some of the friends we met and worked with in Pikeville, KY, when we joined them for a mission trip in June, and to form new friendships. There was a total of 34 adults and two children (Naomi & Charlie Rigg).
It was a weekend of fellowship, food, and FUN, as we had Bible lessons, 4-square, UFO picture taking, 4-square, a treasure hunt, 4-square, Hawaiian Happy Meal contest, 4-square, football, capture the flag, campfire w/s'mores, 4-square, a movie, and other fun stuff!! The dinosaurs won the most points for all the competitions, followed closing by the lizards, snakes and frogs!
Fun was had by all, and a special thank you to Bryan & Kate for making all the arrangements, and inviting our youth group to be a part of the weekend, and to Mr. Walt, who joined us as a chaperone and driver. Pictures will be posted in a day or two.

CHRISTMAS PARTY, TUES., DEC. 20!!

CALLING ALL YOUTH..... LET'S CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS!!

We will have a Christmas Party with a White Elephant Polyanna, on Tuesday, Dec. 20th!

POLYANNA: Each youth should bring a wrapped gift ($5.00 or less). It can be a nice gift or a gag gift (nothing inappropriate!). The rules are as follows:

To participate, you need to bring a gift.

Person #1 opens a gift.
Person #2 can then 'steal' the gift that #1 has if they want it, or open another wrapped gift.
Person #3 can 'steal' from #1 or #2, or open a wrapped gift.
Game continues, 'stealing' or unwrapping.
Once someone has had the same gift 3 times, no one can 'steal' it from them.
Person #1 gets to choose to keep the gift they have or 'steal' any gift from anyone, except those that were stolen 3 times.

It will be FUN, so invite a friend... just ask them to bring a gift!

Attention Jr. and Sr. High Youth: It's time to start thinking....

PINEBROOK!! Friday, February 3 - Sunday, February 5, 2012.

Paperwork and permission forms - handed out on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The cost per youth group member is $25 if paid by Dec. 25. After that date, it will be $30.

You can invite a friend to come, but they will have to pay the full $130 (if paid by Dec. 25), or $140 after Dec. 25.

Ms. Glady will be driving us up in Clifford! We plan to leave the church at 5:30p.m. on Friday night and returning Sunday around 3:30p.m.

Sponsored by Chester County Christian Endeavor, and we will be interacting with several other youth groups from neighboring churches. There will be various games and chance to win prizes throughout the night, and a time a relaxation and devotions by a special speaker.

The game room (arcade) will be open but you will need to bring your own extra money if you want to play them.

If you have not handed in your money or permission slips, please bring them along.

Thanksgiving Dinner - November 15, 2011

WOW... what a DELICIOUS Thanksgiving Dinner we all shared together! (see pictures on the right)

Special thanks to: Ms. Colleen, who always schedules the meals and coordinates volunteers to bring the food donations for all of our dinners, for donating corn, milk and butter and for coming early to help prepare and clean up this special meal; Ms. Shelly, who also came early to prepare and help clean up; to Mr. Walt for helping to clean up; Ms. Meg, who donated mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies; Jane Lee Miller, who baked us apple pies; Joan Rigg, for stuffing and pumpkin pies.

It was a blessing to hear all of you say what you are thankful for. It was evident that most of you, and the leaders, are thankful for our youth group, for Christian fellowship, for the support of family and friends.

May all of you have a very blessed Thanksgiving holiday!!

WE MADE AWESOME CHRISTMAS WREATHS!!

Everyone had a GREAT time Tuesday night, Nov. 8, making beautiful live Christmas wreaths to take home and decorate their doors! All together we made 20 wreaths.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO: Mr. Walt, who worked for 3 days cutting greens and tying 244 bundles with 6 stitches in his thumb that he sliced open during our Potato Bar on Sunday! Also, we wish to thank Ms. Shelly, and her mother, Fran Castle, and her Aunt Sissy, Virginia Griffith, for helping to add the bows, pinecones, etc., and for keeping everything organized and flowing smoothly.

Potato & Chili Bar Funraiser Nov. 6, 2011

Kids... you did a GREAT job setting up for our Baked Potato & Chili Bar Fundraiser during our Lock-In AND another great job in setting up and serving our church family and guests on Sunday! Thank you to all of you who were able to help in making our fundraiser a success. The proceeds will help to sponsor our weekend winter retreat at Pinebrook, February 3-5, 2012.

THANK YOU to our Forks Family who came out and supported us! There were approximately 73 attending (not counting the youth and kitchen workers), and the 100 potatoes we prepared were barely enough. We apologize that there were not enough to offer seconds this time (and for the few workers who were not able to enjoy one), but the sign up numbers were way down, BUT.. we will plan accordingly for our next Potato Bar!

We wish to thank the parents who donated toppings for the potatoes, and Ann Marryatt, Anna Marie Manness, Laurie Stott and Kathy Wills who brought the delicious pots of chili!! A special thank you to "Ms. Shelly" Rigg who helped "Ms. Glady" in the kitchen for prep and clean up, and Anna Marie Manness, Pete Dawson and Colleen Knudson who helped with clean up (and anyone else I may be forgetting to mention).

Thank you to "Ms. Meg" Carafa and Samuel Wills for being our "Spuds" this year and making the announcement to the congregation! (unfortunately I forgot to get pictures of you!)

Please pray for "Mr. Walt" Rigg who cut his thumb while helping to open a can and had to be taken to the hospital where it took 8 stitches to sew up the wound. Pray for quick healing and that it doesn't hinder his work with his Christmas Tree business!

Operation Christmas Child Exceeds Our Goal!!

Awesome Job, Kids!! We exceeded our goal of filling 100 shoeboxes!! With the very generous support of our church family, we were able to fill 128 shoeboxes during our meeting on November 1st, to add to 20 boxes that were already filled and donated.

TOTAL: 148 FILLED BOXES!! (with more filled boxes being added through Nov. 13).

What a blessing these boxes will be to many underprivileged children around the world! Not only will they receive the gifts within the box, but many will hear about our Lord Jesus for the very first time!

Continue to pray for Operation Christmas Child and for each child who will be receiving a box. Especially pray for the millions who NOT be receiving a box.

OVERNIGHT LOCK-IN & POTATO BAR, Nov. 4-5 & 6

REMINDER: Friday Night, Nov. 4th our Lock-In begins at 7:00 PM.
If you have not brought in your permission slip, bring it with you. You are encouraged to invite a friend to come with you!

We will have a time of getting to know each other better, Pizza, and Murder in the Dark!!

Saturday morning we will have a French Toast breakfast (bring your own cereal if you don't like French Toast), and then we will be washing and preparing the potatoes and setting up tables and chairs for our Baked Potato and Chili Bar on Sunday. Parents are to pick you up at 12 Noon on Saturday.

What to Bring: A sleeping bag (or air mattress), blanket, pillow, jammies and toiletries. Also, if you could bring something for the potato bar: a large jar of salsa, sour cream or bacon bits.

The Potato Bar is our major fundraiser for the Pinebrook Weekend (Feb. 3-5), so ask your whole family, friends and neighbors to come on Sunday at 11:30 to enjoy a yummy baked potato with all the toppings and a bowl of chili.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Tuesday, Oct. 18, we went shopping at the Dollar Tree and each youth was able to purchase 10 items to fill a personalize shoebox for a hurting child.

On Oct. 25, we folded 100 pre-printed boxes from Samaritan's Purse and wrapped many of the donated shoeboxes in colorful wrapping paper.

Tuesday, Nov. 1: Our meeting will be extended to 8:00PM. We will begin to fill the shoeboxes! If your parents and/or siblings would like to come and join us, they are very welcome.

If you would like to purchase and bring in more items or a filled shoebox, please do so!

Our goal is to fill 100+ boxes!! Remember to pray for Operation Christmas Child over the next few weeks and for each child who will receive a box. Pray that they will receive it with a heart that is open to hearing about our Lord Jesus and they gain the understanding on how to accept Him as their Savior.

Cherry Crest Farm & Corn Maze, Sat. Oct. 22

GET READY FOR SOME FALL FUN!!! Meet at the church at 9:30a.m., Saturday morning, Oct. 22. We will be taking "Clifford", our big, red bus to go to Cherry Crest Farm in Ronx, PA (near Strasburg). It is only about 30 minutes from the church. We will be back at the church by 3:00 p.m.

There are 23 of us signed up to go! Lunch of sandwiches (sweet lebanon, and turkey with cheese), chips, cookies and water will be provided. If you would like to pack your own lunch and bring it along, or bring money to purchase food, that is fine!

CORN MAZE: Spend about an hour in the world's most dynamic and interactive 5-acre corn maze with over 2.5 miles of paths, scenic bridges, and clues. And don't worry if you take the wrong path! Two Maze Masters are always on hand to get you back on track!

OTHER ACTIVITIES: Wagon Farm Tour, Pedal Kart Tracks, Animal Center, Baby Chick Hatchery, Obstacle Course, Giant Hay Chute Slide, Hay Tunnel, Giant Slinger, Straw Bale Racer, and many more!!

Shopping Night for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes, Tuesday, Oct. 18

Hey Kids & Parents,
Just a reminder for Tuesday, Oct. 18: Meeting is extended to 8:00PM.
TRY TO ARRIVE AS CLOSE TO 5:30 AS POSSIBLE! We will try to finish eating dinner by 6:10, so that we can leave by 6:15 to go to the Dollar Tree in Thorndale to shop for items for our shoeboxes! We will be taking Clifford so that will add to the fun!

If you have not brought in your permission slip to go, please bring it with you or have your parent wait and sign on when they bring you to the meeting. Each person will be given a slip of paper with information of who you will be buying for: whether it is a boy or girl and what their age group is. You will be given $11.00 and able to purchase 1o items each ($10.60 with tax).

Then next week (Oct. 25), we will be wrapping shoeboxes, folding pre-made boxes, and setting the items up on tables so we can begin to fill them during our November 1st meeting.

Volunteering for Global Aid Network Food Packaging

Saturday, October 15, 2011: What a great opportunity it was to go to the GAIN Distribution Center in Mount Joy, PA and package bags of rice and beans to be shipped to famine stricken areas around the world. 6 adults and 16 youth participated in this mission event.

Youth: You all did an excellent job pouring, bagging, sealing the bags of rice and beans! We worked along side youth and adults from both Fairview Presbyterian and Honey Brook Presbyterian churches, and we were able to fill 88 cases. That is 2,112 bags of rice and 1,056 bags of beans!! That is enough to feed 3 families of 4 people for one whole year!! Great Job!!

We are signing up to do it again in June 2012!

REMINDER for Global Aid Trip, Sat. Oct. 15

Please remember that you need to wear closed toed shoes on Saturday for our trip to Global Aid to package meals that will be shipped to underprivleged families around the world. If you did not hand in a permission slip, bring one with you or there will be some for signature when your parents drop you off.

Be in the back church parking lot by 11:50 to organize the carpool so that we can leave by 12 Noon.

If you want to bring a friend, please contact Ms. Glady before Saturday, so that we have enough drivers to carpool.

Meet our new youth director, Shawn Carafa, and get a preview of the exciting events planned for you in the months ahead... Girls Go to Revolve Tour in Philly!!

What a BLAST Lily, Lyssie, Madison (Lyssie's cool friend), Jackie, Lauren, Julia and Michael had at the Revolve Tour in Philly Friday night and Saturday, Nov. 6-7th. The adults had a great time, too! We heard young Christian speakers, Chad Eastman, Jenna Lucado (daughter of auther Max Lucado), and several others. We saw drama skits and heard great music by the wrap group... 1 Crew Group and Christian rock band, STELLAR KART! They stole the show! The girls (and moms) think the lead singer, Adam is really HOT!!! (We're taking SIZZLE here!) They have their newest CD which won't be released to the public until Feb. 2010, so we'll have to play it during one of our meetings for those of you who didn't get to go.

DON'T MISS OUR SPECIAL BONFIRE NIGHT!!! Originally, there was No Meeting scheduled for Tues., Aug., 25th, but we have been invited by Bill and Barb Smith to have a special night at their home. We will meet at the church at 6:00pm and have dinner as usual. Then we will go to the Smith's for a special devotion, activities and bonfire... with S'Mores as dessert!!!

The night will be extended until 9:00 p.m. for pick up back at the church! What a great way to end our year's program before school starts and you have to go to bed earlier! Please let one of your leaders know if you will or will not be attending by Tues., Aug. 18th. Thank you!

AWESOME MISSION WEEK A SUCCESS!!

Hey Kids! What an AWESOME week we had during our Mission Project Week! You were the BEST! Alyssa, Brianna, Sarah, Jackie, Alex, Bianca, Essie, Tiff, Chelsi, Lauren C., Josh, Tommy, Matt and Sal... you guys worked hard during the day and played hard during the evenings!!

We did service projects that included, washing siding, washing windows, yard work, housecleaning, painting a porch, and the car wash at the church Wednesday was a blast! We washed 12 vehicles!

Hey Kids... It's here at last!!! Our AWESOME Mission Week!! Here are the reminders:
Come to the church Sunday night, July 19th at 7:00 PM.
Items to Bring: Sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, pajamas, toiletries, towel. OLD clothes for working/painting. Sneakers to work in, flip flops, bathing suit (for pool party and car washing), Bible, flashlight.
Food items (if able): loaf of bread, box of cereal, snacks, bottle of soda.
It will be a super fun week! Pray for good weather!!

RELAY FOR LIFE at Twin Valley High School

Hey Kids! We will be walking as a team in the Relay for Life event at Twin Valley High School from Friday, June 19th through Saturday, June 20th, to help find a cure for cancer. Our group will be walking in memory of Ronald Phillips, who was taken too early by Leukemia. If you haven't signed up for the Relay for Life team, we need you to do it by our meeting June 9, so that we can purchase our team tee shirts and plan how many are going to stay all night, or just come during the times they can walk the track, etc. If you didn't receive the permission slip or papers, please call a leader ASAP. Our purpose is to raise money for cancer research and here is the insert that has been in our church bulletin that explains how people can help us:

The Jr. High Youth Group will be walking as a team in the Twin Valley Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour event in which team members walk on a track in relay fashion for 24 hours to raise money to fight cancer. The event will start at noon Friday, June 19th and end at noon, Saturday, June 20th.

Would you please consider sponsoring our youth in one of three ways:

1) Each student is required to pay a $10.00
registration fee to walk. Some of our youth need
assistance in paying this fee. If you would like to
help with this, please see Shelly, Walt or Glady.

2) Each student is asked to get donations for walking. WE WILL WALK FOR YOU! We will walk in memory or in honor of your loved one. As a team we will be wearing matching shirts; when you donate we will put your loved ones name on our shirt.

3) Please keep us in your prayers as we represent
the Forks of the Brandywine EPC in this community fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

"AWESOME" MISSION WEEK LOCK-IN, JULY 19-23

Hey Kids! You need to bring your permission slips and medical forms in for our "AWESOME" Mission Week Lock-In by the meeting of June 9, if possible. If you forget it, have your parents call Ms. Glady to let her know you will definitely be attending. We have people in the church signing up to have projects done around their homes and we need to know how many of you will be able to help so we can make teams to cover the jobs and not over schedule.
Most of you should have received the schedule of events by now.... Doesn't it look like FUN, FUN, FUN! And what a blessing it will be to serve the people of our church family and community!!!

Wow Guys! What a GREAT job you did dying and decorating all those eggs for the Egg Hunt! You decorated over 500 eggs!! THANK YOU to those who came out to help and to Lauren's sisters and brother, Marissa, Bekah and Kevin who came to help in Lauren's place!

THANK YOU to those of you who came out in the rain to help set up and help with activities at the Egg Hunt on Saturday.... Walt, Jr., Dylan (thanks for making the twisty balloons!), Scott (from Sr. High), Lily, Liz, Allie (not sure if you have an "L" name), Lyssie, Elizabeth and Sierra (thanks for face painting), and to any youth that I may be forgetting to list.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to Mr. Walt and Ms. Shelly who made the whole thing possible, and the help of all the adults who chippped in to help set up, who donated eggs and candy, helped with traffic control, and all the other activities. Thank you to Mr. McClintock for the special message he gave for everyone.

Here is your chance to show off your pet(s)! Bring in photos of your pet(s) doing tricks, looking cute, being BAD, or doing something funny. We will post them on the Bulletin Board and then, in a few weeks, when we have all of them posted, we will have a vote to choose the: Best Looking Pet, Funniest Pose, Best Costume, Strangest Position, etc. We'll come up with some more categories together and then VOTE! Let's have FUN with this! Bring in those photos!! If you can send them to Ms. Glady in Email, she will post them on this blog!
